The Cleveland Animal Protective League’s mission is to foster compassion and end animal suffering through adoption, spay/neuter, cruelty investigations and education. Incorporated in 1913, we are an independent, private, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) humane society located in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood.

We do not receive tax dollars and are not funded or controlled by any government agency. We are not governed by any national animal welfare organization and we do not receive a percentage of donations made to those organizations. Our animal shelter, services, and programs are supported by donations from individuals, foundations and businesses, grants, estate gifts, and service fees.

We have achieved 100 percent placement of healthy, friendly animals. There are no time limits at the Cleveland APL. We envision a time when every friendly, healthy, treatable homeless animal in our community can be cared for until a new family is found.

The Cleveland APL provides shelter to homeless animals relinquished by their guardians, animals that are rescued from abuse or neglect, and stray or abandoned cats. Stop in and visit the many animals we help and have available for adoption – make one of our friends one of your very best friends!

Mission of this Organization

The Cleveland Animal Protective League envisions a society in which:

- Animals are valued, treated with dignity and respect, and protected from cruelty and neglect;

- Every companion animal-in-need has a chance for rehabilitation and re-homing;

- The human-animal bond is cherished and supported; and

- Every pet is wanted.
